I hope everyone had a great week and a relaxing weekend.
This week I listened to another great series by Jordan Castillo Price, Channeling Morpheus for Scary Mary (Channeling Morpheus/Sweet Oblivion #1-5). I also read a really fun book by Megan Derr called Wriggle and Sparkle.
Title: Channeling Morpheus For Scary Mary
Series: Channeling Morpheus/Sweet Oblivion #1-5
Author: Jordan Castillo Price
Narrator: Gomez Pugh
Publisher: JCP Books LLC
Audiobook release date: April 13, 2015
Length: 7 hours 44 minutes
Summary: Michael is a waif in eyeliner who’s determined to wipe vampires off the face of the earth. Wild Bill’s got the hots for Michael and will stop at nothing to go home with him. Forget about moonlit castles and windswept moors. These bad boys haunt all-night diners and cheap motels, cut-rate department stores and long, lonely stretches of the interstate. Ride along with Wild Bill and Michael as the twists and turns of Channeling Morpheus for Scary Mary unfold in America’s heartland.
My introduction to Jordan Castillo Price was her book Magic Mansion, followed by the PsyCop series. I almost passed up Channeling Morpheus because it was a vampire book and I thought that I was through with that phase. (insert eye roll at myself)
I was so wrong. I listened it because is was JCP. She doesn’t do “Typical”, she does gritty, edgy, sexy (lots of sexy) with a dash of humor and a depth to her characters that draws me in and keeps me invested in their story from the first word to the last. I enjoyed her take on vampire lore. There are aspects we all recognize and it could be considered horror, but it is a romance too. I loved the way Wild Bill and Michael’s relationship evolved. There is a lot of sex, but it is part of who Wild Bill and Michael are and changes as their relationship changes. The narration by Gomez Pugh is outstanding. Listening to him change from wild Bill to Michael and the various other characters is amazing. Definitely one of my favorite narrators.
I can’t wait until the next box set A Bitter taste of Sweet Oblivion is on audio.
Here is a great review for Channeling Morpheus for Scary Mary (audiobook)

Title: Wriggle & Sparkle : The Collected Tales of a Kraken and a Unicorn
Author: Megan Derr
Publisher: Less Than Three Press, LLC
Publication date: August 08, 2016
Genre: M/M, Fantasy, gender fluid, paranormal
Summary: Lynn is a kraken shifter in every way: detailed, tenacious, resilient, and hard-working. Also possessive, vain, arrogant, and demanding. It makes him an excellent agent for the Federal Bureau of Paranormal Security and Investigation—and impossible to work with, as the long list of partners who have transferred away from him will attest.
His newest partner is a unicorn, possibly the worst type of paranormal for work that often turns ugly and violent. Everyone knows unicorns are too delicate for such things. Then Anderson proves to be a unicorn like no other, the kind of partner Lynn has always wanted—the kind of partner he wishes was more. But if there’s one thing he’s learned, it’s that the only thing harder to keep than a partner is a lover.
Warning: Contains tentacle porn
Publisher’s note: This was originally published as a serial at Yaoifix. It has been edited and revised for release with LT3, but nothing significant has changed
Thoughts: I saw this book reviewed on The Novel Approach Reviews when it released and loved the review(see link below). I am not usually a shifter fan but a Kraken and a Unicorn? Cool. Tentacle sex. Well, that’s a first for me. 🙂 The story turned out to be very enjoyable. Fun, light, sweet and romantic, filled with great characters and a cute, entertaining story. Lynn is a cranky Kraken that loves the finer things in life and Anderson is not your modern stereotype of the sweet , vulnerable unicorn, although he does have a pretty serious sweet tooth. They work together for the Federal Bureau of Paranormal Security and Investigation. As they work together solving cases, their relationship grows. They make a great team, on and off the job. It is quite a cast of mythical creatures and I liked the way the author portrays them and their characteristics.
I read after the fact that this was originally a serialized story. It helped explain the way the mini cases/mysteries felt in the book. That is not a negative. It was fun. I will never be able to call this book Wriggle and Sparkle – it will always be Wriggly and Sparkleson to me. If you want a fun, light, sexy read and aren’t afraid of a little tentacle sex, give it a try
